Based on survey data of 1818 households in 6 provinces and cities in Vietnam within the framework of the ministerial level project "Social security policies for families in Vietnam in the context of modernization and integration", the current difficulties of households, the support and desire for welfare of people and target groups should give priority to social security. Research results show that income and employment are one of the common difficulties faced by households. Meanwhile, the desire to receive social security support from households is far from what they receive from current programs and policies. The need for loans, employment and health insurance is always the first priority for families and poor households who are still the first target for social security. This fact shows that there is a shortage of social security policies for families today, and also need to pay attention to the differences between groups of households, avoid issuing and applying a common policy for all households.
