The study focused on three main points. The first content was selection and classification of H'Mong cattle herds raised in 150 households in Dong Van district, Ha Giang province. The second part was assessment on growth ability of calves from selected parents. Finally, based on monitoring results of the second generation calves, effects of breed selection to the following generations were evaluated using generalized linear models (GLM) and regression equations. Findings revealed that H'Mong cattle were heavily muscled
mature cattle reached 298 kg/head for female and up to 363 kg/head for male. At the age of over 2.5 years, they could produce their first calf
and the time between two parities was 16 months. The selection of heavy parents improved body weight and growth rate of calves.
