Cao Ba Quat (1808-1855) was a notable figure in the midcentury Vietnamese literature. His poetry has been praised for compelling and nouvelle ideas. Through the poem Da Mon truc chi tu, ki tam (means "Zhu zhi ci at Da Nang Estuary, third chapter"), Cao Ba Quat both objectively expressed his progressive ideology and perception of the business class and showed a new way to depict the feminine figure.
