Sineleotris saccharae, a new record for the ichthyo-fauna of Vietnam, is described morphologically on the basis of 57 specimens collected from the Ba Che and Tien Yen rivers in Northern Vietnam. Three species of the genus Sineleotris are found in Vietnam. S. saccharae is distinguished from the other two species in the genus by the following unique characteristics: D = IX, I, 13-14, head height greater than its width, scales from the origi n of the first dorsal fin to the pectoral base av. 7, tip of pectoral fins not reaching tip of ventral fins, distance from the base of the second dorsal fin closer to the snout than to the caudal base, a blackish bar below the eyes, on the first dorsal fin is a large violet-black spot. Regarding haplotype, the detailed morphological characters of this species are given in the present paper. This fish is found mainly in a small stream (0.3 - 1 m deep, 5 - 10m wide) with a relatively slow current.
