To introduce a green residue management for sewage sludge in industrial zones in Vietnam adequate treatment technologies and a maximized utilization of the sewage sludge recycling potential are essential. In the industrial zone Tra Noc various sludge types from different branches of industry have been characterised of relevant parameters in wastewater such as carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus as well as total solids, heavy metals and microbiological analyses to determine the potential for biological sludge treatment. Sewage sludge from fish production industries, beverage and chitosan production have been chosen for the first research tests on the technologies vermicomposting and anaerobic digestion. For each of these treatment technologies, different conditions like mixing ratios, choice of co-substrates, organic load etc. have been tested. The focus is an overall balancing of the nutrient and pollutant flows which is the basis to assess the potential treatment processes and chains according to scientific, technical and economic criteria.
