603/912 clinical samples from patients with hand, foot and mouth disease in 2011 collected from Northern provinces of Vietnam are positive with enteroviruses including 275 positive samples with HEV71 (45.6 percent) and 328 positive samples with other enteroviruses (54.4 percent). The result of 328 sequenced PCR products, 177 samples were identified as Coxsackievirus A6 (53.9 percent), 102 as Coxsackie A16 (31.3 percent), 4.6 percent as other CoxsackieA viruses including type 3, 10, 12 and 13 and 0.6 percent as Coxsackievirus type B, 4.3 percent as echo viruses, 0.9 percent as Polio-Sabin virus and enteroviruse typ 96,15 samples were identified as Rhinovirus (4.6 percent). Disease was mainly detected in children under 3 years of age.
