Landslides, a geological phenomenon, are the result of geological, geomorphologic, climatic, hydrographical factors and human activities. Based on a careful analysis of these factors, the relationship between landslides and rainfall in Quang Nam province has been determined. It was found that landslide occurrences depend on the amount of annual rainfall and the number of rainy days in a year. The amount of rain that falls within a short period of time - like right before a landslide - was found to be of no consequence. Upstream and local deforestation were also found to be insignificant. Methods of predicting landslides are now being looked into.
