Objective: to evaluate the efficacy of extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy for the treatment of urinary calculi in Ninh Binh Genenal Hospital. Patients and method: The prospective study was conducted on 244 patients with renal and urerteral calculi treated by extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (E5WL) at the Department of Urology, Ninh Binh General Hospital from May, 2010 to October 2012. Results: 88.1 percent patients were treated succesfully. There were no serious complications that were found in this research. Conclusion: The treatment of renal and urerteral calculi by HK E5WL-V is an effective, less invasive and fewer complication procedure. This procedure is well used in cases: the size of stones is from 10 to 20mm, the photosensitive degree of stones is low and urinary function remains well.
