The article looks at the notion of Trinity in Indian religion and culture which dominates the principle of controlled action by the heroes in the Epic of Mahabharata. The doctrine of the Trinity expresses the belief in three functions under one principle that creates this universe (i.e. three divine persons coexisting consubstantially as one in being). Similarly, the three pilgrims Bhima, Arjuna and Yudhisthira represent one being. Bhima represents physical strength, Arjuna represents wisdom and talent, while Yudhisthira represents intelligence and morals. One needs to consider all of these in a comprehensive relationship in order to recognize the protagonist model that the Mahabharata depicted.
