After the electronic replica of the painting True Lam Dai si xuat son chi do (The Mahasattva Truc Lam coming out of the mountain) was sold at surprisingly high prices at the auction in Beijing in April 2012, there were hundreds of newspaper articles and some seminars discussing about that painting in Vietnam with many "unique and unexpected" praising comments exceeding the real value of that piece of work. In this article, the author tries to give a realistic view based on technical methods of analysis so that readers can identify what the real value of the work is. Firstly, the author clarifies the concept of restoration techniques of an art work
then, by textual analysis, the author points out unclear or wrong parts in the writing section, focusing on the narative of Du Dinh who had the most influential and decisive role in the study of the painting True Lam Dai si xuat son chi do. The unclear parts in the painting section are also analyzed, in which the author claims that there is no reliable basis to confirm that King Tran Anh Tong really came to meet Mahasattva Truc Lam. In the author's opinion, Wikipedia Vietnamese classifies it as one of Chinese paintings because they do not trust in what Vietnamese scholars and researchers of the country wrote or said.
