Foot and mouth disease (FMD) virus is existing with seven distinct serotypes: O, A, C, Asia 1, SAT1, SAT2, and SAT3, causing epidemics in many countries including Vietnam. Viral infection with one serotype does not confer protection against the dther serotypes and it is a major obstacle to production of vaccine against FMD, causing significant economic loss. Surveillance of viral molecular is a crucial method for controlling FMD outbreaks. In this study, 10 field FMDVs of serotype O collected from endemic outbreaks in 2010 from five different provinces in the North Vietnam were genetically characterized.
