Nguyen Huu Canh (1650-1700), a famous general under the reign of Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu, had the merit of expanding the country to the south. His merit was recognized by the Nguyen Dynasty
and he was respected and worshipped in many places. However, documents about his life and career still contain some ambiguous details, which need to be resolved thoroughly. This paper attempts to clarify some details concerning the life of Nguyen Huu Canh, such as finding out about his real name, identifying the sites of Ngu Khe (Fish creek) and Hoa Phong Rampart during the war against the Kingdom of Chenla (1699-1700), finding out about the reason why he died, of serious illness or in the battle, together with some legends related to his death.
