Objectives: Evaluate outcome and analyze complications from microsurgical surgery of vestibular schwannoma by retrosigmoid approach. Methods: retrospective study of 40 unilateral vestibular schwannoma underwent in Vietduc hospital from January 2012 to July 2013 (18 months). Results: 15males: 25 females, mean age 48,5 (24-73). The most comment symptom is relating to ear, deaf 17/40 (42,5 percent). Tumors size is bigger than 20mm (87,5 percent). Total or subtotal tumor resection were 87,5 percent. Complications: facial paralysis (House Brackman III-VI) 20/40 patients (50 percent), only 5/20 cases have recovered, deaf 5/24 patients (20,8 percent), wound infection 2/40 (5 percent), died 2/40 (5 percent), hydrocephalus 3 cases (7,5 percent), 2 cases have to be secondary operated due to big tumor size. Conclusions: there are still a controvery of vestibular schwannoma surgical methodology beacause of high rate of complication, espescially facial paralysis and deaf. This study help to refine the strategy for vestibular schwannoma treatment.
