The article deals with the importance of the use of statistics in Vietnam, limitations found in 10th grade algebra textbooks and the actual teaching and learning of statistics in high school. The authors propose the teaching and learning of statistics in high school should focus on developing students' ability to understand written statistics and be able to make sense of actual statistical data that is relevant in daily life and the student's hobbies and interests. the authors consider teaching and learning statistics making use of an applied teaching point of view, teaching students how to solve practical problems to "prepare a work force that is self-controlled, creative and capable of solving common problems".
