Born in Go Cong province, Ho Van Trung (1884-1958) was an honest chief of various districts in French Cochinchina. Under the alias Ho Bieu Chanh, he is well-known as a prolific writer whose works include various literary genres such as poetry, short stories, nonfiction essays, critiques, plays, and novels. Having published over sixty novels, he is among the pioneers in the dawn of the twentieth century literature in Cochinchina. Based on his novels, lots of films were produced during the years 1989-2011. At present, in his home province, as well as Phu Nhuan district (HCMC) and some provinces in southern and central Vietnam, his alias Ho Bieu Chanh has been chosen to name some streets.
