Taking celery (Apium graveolens L., Apiaceae) as a nationwide cultivated vegetable in Vietnam and of medicinal use due to its various precious biological activities such as antihypertensive, diuretic, analgesic, anti-inflamatory, anti-rheumatic effects, the present work undertook a phytochemcal study of the ethanol extracts from the seeds. Two compounds were isolated and identified as (+)-Pinoresinol and Apigenin by MS and NMR. The presence of (+)-Pinoresinol in the seeds of celery (Apium graveolens L.) was discovered for the first time.
