The bacterial strain BXC4 was isolated from the wastewater of Coc Hoa factqry, Cam Gia ward, Thai Nguyen province after triplicate enrichemens in liquid mineral medium supplemented. with 50 ppm phenol and 0.1 percent glucose. Colonies of bacterial strain BXC4 with surrounded filaments and 1.5 mm indiameter were clear white, nonround, and mucilaginous, they secreted blue pigment in the liquid mediu percent but did not root in soil medium. The cells morphology of BXC4 strain were observed by Scanning Electron 'Microscopy (SEM). The cells were a rod shape with 0.73-0.91 um in width and 3.64-3.82 um in length. Based on the morphological characteristics and sequence alignment of 16S rRNA encoding gene, straln of BXC4 of had a high homology up to 99 percent with P. aeruginosa L-4 and therefore, this train was named Pseudomonas sp.C4. This sequence was submitted to the GenBank with Accession Number JQ927332. This strain is able to biodegrade of phenol 62.4 percent with 650 ppm in the intial phenol concentration in the medium containing 0.1 percent glucose after 7 days of cultivation. The strain Pseudomonas sp.C4 is able to grow best at temperatures 37°C and pH from 6 to 9. From the results obtained, the strain Pseudomonas sp.C4 belongs to a large number of microorganisms capable of degrading phenols in industrial wastewater and could be used for later waste water treatment by biodegradable technology.
