Objective: The authors performed a prospective study to evaluate the feasibility of retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy and renalcystectomy under spinal anesthesia in selected patients. Patients and methods: From February 2012 to August 2012, seven ASA grade I or II patients underwent retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy and renalcystectomy under spinal anesthesia in Quang Nam hospital. Results: All cases were successfully completed retrolaparoscopically under spinal anesthesia. Mean time of operation was 57.85 minutes. Median pain score 4 h (visual analog scale) postoperatively was 1.5 (range 1-3), at 8h it was 2.5 (range 1-4), at 12h it was 1.7 (range 1-3), and at 24h it was 1 (range q-2 ). Mean time of hospital stay was 5.28 days (range 4-7). All the patients were satisfied with results of operations on follow up. Conclusion: retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy and renalcystectomy under spinal anesthesia by experienced surgeons is feasible and cost-effective. Further studies are required to validate this technique.
