The belief of worshipping the souls derived from Buddhism
however, when penetrating deep into folklife, it has been adapted and changed naturally and deeply in conformity with the reconcilable thinking of the three religions - Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism - in Vietnam. Starting from different signals about the souls in Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, the custom of worshipping the souls contains diverse sacrificial forms with plentiful ways of performances and rituals. In worshipping the souls, while Taoist rituals are aimed at releasing the souls by incantations and magic, Confucianist rituals tend to educate and promote morality, benevolence and righteousness, not only in relations between people but also between the living and the dead. Buddhist rituals, particularly, are performed in the sense of "performing depending upon the world", but always aim for the enlightenment: the liberation of oneself. The reconcilement of rituals in worshipping the souls in various religious doctrines is a special feature in Vietnamese beliefs and religions.
