A wideband bandpass filter (BPF) using a distorted uni-planar compact electromagnetic bandgap (DUC-EBG) unit cell is presented in this paper. By using a cascade of two DUC-EBG unit cells, acting as a multi-mode resonator (MMR), the filter achieves about 22 percent of size reduction in comparison with reference one, which is based on microstrip multi-mode resonator. The two models have been fabricated and measured. The good performance of the proposed structure has been demonstrated both in simulated and measured results. The fractal bandwidth of the proposed filter has achieved 115 percent of the center frequency of 3.4 GHz, while the variation of group delay is about 2 ns.
