The study aimed to describe the current status of meal management and nutrition counseling to the elderly in the Central Geriatric Institute. Cross-sectional descriptive study design was used. Direct interviews of 200 patients over 60 years old with pre-designed questionnaire were conducted. Results showed that the management of meals during hospitalization was: most of the patients ate in restaurants outside the hospital (75 percent), 21 percent ate family cooking meals, only 4 percent of the patients ate in hospital. 68.5 percent did not have good appetite when eating in the hospital, 80 percent of the patients could not finish the meal and 63 percent patients had restricted diet when: eating in the hospital. The rate of nutritional counseling in the hospital was 26.5 percent and mostly by physicians (64.2 percent). Research findings were a basis for planning of patient care.
