Introduction: the authors conducted this study with the aim to assess histopathological features of the kidneys in patients with lupus nephritis. Patients and methods. The study included 81 patients who were diagnosed lupus nephritis and have done renal biopsy in Nephro-Urology, Bach Mai Hospital. A prospective study was performed on 26 lupus nephritis patients from 12/2011 to 7/2012 and a retrospective study performed on 55 patients from 1/2008 to 11/2011. Results. Lupus nephritis Class IV had the highest proportion, accounted for 46,9 percent. Lupus nephritis Class II was 16 percent, lupus nephritis Class III and V were the same number, accounting for 14,8 percent, Class I was 4,9 percent and lupus nephritis Class VI with the lowest proportion that was 2,6 percent. The rate of immune complex deposition: IgG and IgM were the same propotion that found in 95,2 percent of cases, IgA was 87,1 percent, C3 and C4 were the same percentage, accounting for 95,2 percent, and C1q was 90,3 percent. The level of IgA deposition with the most common form was at level 1+, accounting for 40,3 percent, while the deposition of IgG and IgM with the most common cases were at 3+ and accounted for 67,7 percent and 51,6 percent respectively. The deposition of C3 and C4 were similar to the deposition of IgG and IgM. The most of cases were at level 3+, that were 62,9 percent and 58,1 percent respectively. The deposition of C1q at level 3+ was 32,3 percent, C1q deposition at level 2+ was up to 43,5 percent
and C1q deposition at level 1+ was 14,5 percent. Conclusions. The highest proportion was lupus nephritis Class IV accOunted for 46,9 percent, followed by Class II was 16 percent, Class III and V were the same number accounting for 14,8 percent, Class I was 4,9 percent and Class VI had the lowest proportion that was 2,6 percent. The deposition of IgA, the most common was at level 1+, in the other hand, the other antibodies and complement mainly deposited at level 3+, this diference was statistically significant with p0,05.
