Thanks to geographical advantages, Thua Thien Hue province has a high level of biodiversity related to species composition and distribution characteristics. However, wild animals, especially reptiles, are exploited excessively. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out an adequate investigation of exploitation of reptiles for conservation and stable development. Results of investigations at 84 places show that there are 25 reptile species belonging to 3 orders and 14 families that have been used for many purposes. Reptiles are used as food in 31 places, for trading in 9 places, for wine industry in 34 places, for breeding in 8 places and for fine arts or industrial articles in 2 places. There are 16 species that need to be included in the conservation list of Vietnam (accounted for 64 percent of species).
