The descriptive cross-sectional survey on 400 children under 5 years old in Vu Phuc commune, Thai Binh city in 2013 shows that the prevalence rate of weight-for-age malnutrition was 13.9 percent, most of which were at the levell, accounting for 11.2 percent, while 0.3 percent of the malnutrition children were at the level III. The underweight malnutrition rate was found lowest in the age group under 12 months. The stunting rate was 23.1 percent. tending to increase with age. The emaciation rate was 6.9 percent, found more in male children (7.4 percent) than in female ones (6.5 percent), with no difference of malnutrition rates by age. The overweight and obesity rate was 3.2 percent, found more in female children (4 percent) than male ones (2.5 percent), mostly in the age group 49-60 months old.
