Objectives of the study were to describe the cancer mortality by ICD-10 and by sex in the general populations of Hanoi city, in 2005-2008. Results showed that the num,ber of cancer death occurred at 23 commune/ward was 609 males and 265 females. Age-standardized cancer mortality rates (ASR) were 184.8/105 in male and 62.3/105 in female. The leading cancer was liver cancer (ASR 56.9/105 in male and 12.7/105 in female), followed by lung cancer (ASR 565.8/105 in male and 14.2/105 in female) and stomach cancer (ASR 26.6/105 in male and 7.3/105 in female). These three cancer sites were responsible for 75.2 percent of male and 54.4 percent of female cancer.
