A 52-year-old man living in a village of Thanh Hoa province, North. Vietnam, visited and was surgically treated in the National Hospital of Lung Diseases in March 2013. He felt chest pains in the right for 2 months before hospitalization, without fever and cough. Lung X-ray showed a lump in the rightlobe, eosinophillia increased to 12.8 percent with Echinococcus antigen positive by ELISA A water cyst with 6 x 7 cm diameter was collected from the right lung by surgery. The cyst (hydatid cyst disease) contained many protoscoleces, which were identified as Echinococcus ortleppi by morphology and molecular method (using NADH hydrogenasa and 23S rebosome with 99.5 percent homology compared with Echinococcus ortleppi in GenBank). The result confirmed the presence of Echinococcus ortleppi in Viet Nam.
