An effective X-ray measurement method for determining the accurate residual stresses in two perpendicular directions of textured austenitic stainless steel is presented. The accurate stress constant used for calculating the stress is determined experimentally by loading stresses. Regardless of the material isotropy, the slopes and the intercepts of the straight lines fitted to the peak positions in the sin2p diagram and the peak positions of a diffraction line vary proportionally with the applied stress. The residual stress values calculated from the accurate equations for textured material agrees with those calculated from approximated equation for isotropic materials.
