An attempt to design development standards for 5-year old children was made in Vietnam for the first time as part of the national strategy to standardize education. The standards are simple and easy to use. It includes 4 domains, 28 standards and 120 indicators. The content of the standards cover physical development, emotional and social relationships, language and communication, and cognition in 5-year old children. It reflects the values of the Vietnamese nation, communities and families which are to be taught to children in school. These standards and indicators reflect the growth characteristics of Vietnamese 5 year old children and include those things which every child should memorize and be able to repeat for an exam.
