The thought of the Mahayana brought a new vitality and created a timeless vitality for the Buddhism. It needs to understand the base that formed the thought of the Mahayana in order to inherit and effectively promote this thought. This article summarily mentioned the base formation the thought of the Mahayana on the extcrnal and internal aspects which included social impacts from the exchanges and the intrusion of foreign culture and the effects of the Brahmanism's culture. This article simultaneously presented the context and self-transformation of the Buddhism though the periods of Theravada and Vada which formed the thought of the Mahayana.
