According to the historical annals, the first Vietnamese pagodas appeared in the
South in the fourteenth century, but only when the Nguyen Lords relocated on Thuan Hoa Land, since the seventeenth century, pagodas and temples have been much more built. Pagodas in Hue are often large - scaled as large ones in the north, but they still maintain 2 factors: landscape space and structure. They nonnally match the natural landscape, creating meditative beauty, especially the designs of pagoda gardens. The architectural items in Hue do not commonly emphasize decorative sculpture on wooden components as those the north, instead, the overall beauty is expressed on their appearance with the high-quality and original art of applying and linking colorful potsherds on mortar and limestone base.
