Purpose: To asess the clinical characteristics of severe vitreous hemorrhage due t'o contusion ocular trauma and to investigate the factors influencing the prognosis. Method: Prospective non-comparative observational case series. Conducted on 35 eyes. A total of 35 eyes in 35 patients in which pars plana vitrectomy was performed after severe closed globe injury cases in Vietnam Institute of Ophthalmology (VNIO) from 01/12/2011 to 01/08/2012. The main outcome measures are from before, intraoperative and 1 day, 1 week. 1 month and 3 months postoperative. Result: The mean age + or - SD was 31.29 + or - 2.75 years (range. 5-67 years). The majority of men (91.4 percent). Each eye injury rate was nearly the same (57.1 percent
42.9 percent). The main cause of trauma i~ living accidents (54.3 percent). The patient came to hospital and underwent surgery within 1 month after injury, when posterior vitreous detachment rate was 77.1 percent Almost of patients have coordination lesions with 91.4 percent. Origins major bleeding from the blood vessels of posterior. Conclusion: The clinical features of vitreous hemorrhage due to ocular contusion injury are varied and complex. Lesions to hyphema and retinal detachment coordination were poor prognosis factor.
