Torn meniscus is a quite common knee joint injury which good results are achievable with arthroscopy surgery. The authors conducted a retrospective study on 84 patients with knee meniscus injury alone treated with arthroscopy surgery at Viet Duc University hospital. A 3 years follow-up were conducted with 2 goals: 1. Describe the morphology of knee meniscus injury due to trauma
2. Evaluate the long term result of arthroscopic meniscectomy. Male/female ratio is 1.7/1, the common age from 20 to 35 years old (40.5 percent), main causes are traffic accidents and sports accidents. The most common meniscal injury is at the meniscal body at 35.6 percent and 33.3 percent at the me~iscal horn. Rating on Lysholm scale gives 78.1 percent of patients with good and excellent results, 21.9 percent with moderate and poor results. 71.9 percent of the patients can return to the same level of pre-operative daily and sports activities. The level of knee osteoarthritis after surgery for 3 to 5 years have a high rate of joint degeneration with 9.4 percent grade 3 level 4.
