A cross sectional study was conducted on the nutritional status of children under 5 years old in the Tran Hung Dao commune, Phuly city, Hanam province. A total of 360 children under age 5 and their mothers were recruited for the study. The proportion of malnourished children resulting in underweight (WAZ), stunting (HAZ) and wasting (WHZ) was 4.4 percent, 7.5 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively, while the rate of overweight and obesitywas only 12.2 percent. The education level, mother's occupation, number of children in the family, and child - rearing practices by the mothers were statistically significant factors associated with the nutritional status of children in the Tran Hung Dao commune.
