Background: The flap that is prepared and raised from frontal branch of the superficial artery has been universally used by the plastic surgery for eye reconstruction since 1893. Several plastic surgery institutions in Vietnam clinically used the forehead flap for this management. However, there was no systemic study in clinical application of this flap in eye reconstruction. Methods: Afirst stage evaluation of the frontal branch of superficial temporal artery clinical application in eye reconstruction. 12 free frontal branch flaps (12 pedicle flaps) were transferred to reconstruct 11 patients with eye defects (7 male and 4 female, 1 patient with 2 flaps). Results: A post operation evaluation resulted with 100 percent success rate. The size of the flaps ranged from 2.8 x 1 to 7.5 x 6 cm. The average length of the flap was 8.2 + or - 2.3 cm. Conclusions: Frontal branch of superficial temporal artery flap has several advantages including thinness, well blood supply, and large diameter.
