Lonicerae Folium et Caulis is a commonly used anti-inflammatory herbal drug. The therapeutic effectiveness of this drug depends significantly on the geographical origin, hence, the standardization using the chemical characteristics would be very important. In the present study, an HPLC method for simple and effective analysis of four main components like coniferin, acid loganic, swerosid and loganin from the Lonicerae Folium et Caulis sample was developed and validated. Four main components were base line separated on a Optimapak C18 column with gradient of mobile phase A (10 percent methanol containing 0.1 percent formic acid) and B (90 percent methanol containing 0.1 percent formic acid) for 0 min 0 percent B, 15 min 30 percent B, 25 min 70 percent B, 30 min 70 percent B, 35 min 100 percent B
45 min 100 percent B
50 min 0 percent B. The flow rate was 1.0 ml/min and detection was carried out at 254 nm. Methylparaben was used as an internal standard. The quantitation results showed that the highest concentrations of coniferin, acid loganic, swerosid, loganin in the analyzed samples were 0.55, 10.9, 4.22, and 7.08 mg/g and lowest concentrations were 0.03, 0.30, 0.37, and 0.02 mg/g, respectively.
