Hepatitis B is one of the common communicable diseases in over the world, over one million people die each year because of severe liver diseases related to Hepatitis B virus. The prevalence of hepatitis B virus is high in Vietnam. Objective: To determine the prevalence of hepatitis B virus at office staffs in Hanoi in 2011. Methodology: A cross-sectional study design was done in 4325 office staffs who came to Hanoi Medical University Hospital for health check - up. Result: Prevalence of Hepatitis B virus was 8 percent. Prevalence of Hepatitis B virus in male at 59.3 percent was significantly higher than that in female at 40.7 percent (p 0.05). The prevalence of Hepatitis B virus at age from 18 to 39 was the highest proportion. The proportion of elevated AST was higher in HBsAg-positive (16.3 percent) compared with HBsAg-negative (7 percent) (p0.001). The proportion of elevated ALT was higher in HBsAg positive (15.7 percent) compared with HBsAg-negative (14.3 percent) (p0.001). The change in structure of the liver on ultrasound was higher in HBsAg-positive (2 percent) compared with HBsAg-negative (0,1 percent) (p0.001). Conclusion: The prevalence of Hepatitis B virus among office staff in Hanoi was relatively high (8 percent). It is necessary to strengthen policies for prevention of hepatitis B virus infection in adult.
