Objective: To analyze characteristics of the pregnant women in relation to omphalocele and gastrochisis of the fetus diagnosed by ultrasonography at the National OBGYN Hospital. Method: retrospective study on 93 pregnant women undergone ultrasonography at the National OBGYN Hospital with the diagnosis of omphalocele and gastrochisis . Results: Average age of the women was 26.09 + or - 5.79, as the oldest at 43, youngest at 17 years old. Most of the women (71 percent) were primipara, while 97.8 percent of the women had no history of fetal defect. Gestational age varied from 13 to 36 weeks. Among fetuses with omphalocele, 35.7 percent had chromosomal abnonna/ities, higher than fetuses with gastrochisis. Conclusion: Average age of women with fetal omphalocele was older than the women with gastrochisis. No genetic detennination found related to omphalocele and gastrochisis cases. Gestational age varied from 13 to 36 weeks. Omphalocele tend to be combined with other defects than gastrochisis. Chromosomal abnonna/ities found more often in omphalocele than in gastrochisis.
