Objectives: to evaluate the itching relief effect of amitriptylin in treating endogenous pruritus. Method: A randomized control trial was carried in 47 patients with endogenous pruritus at Dermatology department, Thai Nguyen National General Hospital from October 2012 to May 2013. The experimental group included 24 patients who took amitriptylin 25mg in the evening in combination with loratadin 10mg/day. The control group included 23 who purely took loratadin 10mg/day. Results: the maintaining of itching relief after 6 hours in the experimental group was seen in 70 percent of the patients that was significantly higher than the con troll group (28.6 percent), p0,05. After 9 days of the treatment, the rate of experimental patients free from itching was 60 percent which was actually higher than the number of 28.6 percent in the con troll gtoup, p0,05. Side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, puting on weight, finger trembling, dry mouth, digestive disoders were noted in both groups with no statistical differences. There was no patient giving up the trial. Conclusions: A combined remedy with amitriptylin releases itching effectively in treating endogenous pruritus, some side effects might occur without impact to the treatment.
