Objective: The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to examine the prevalence of the various types of maxillary labial frenum attachment in the pupils of the boarding-school of ethnic minority in Ha Giang province. Subjects and methods: Subjects were pupils of the boarding-school of ethnic minority in Ha Giang province, Vietnam, were clinically examined for maxillary frenum attachment location. Results and conclusions: The examined subjects were 277, with mean (t standard deviation) age of 7.7 (+ or - 3.2) years. The prevalence of the maxillary labial frenum attachment was mucosal (66.8 percent), gingival (26.7 percent), papillary (6.5 percent), and none case of papillary penetrating- type. Frenum attachment differed significantly by age (p 0.05).Mucosal attachment was significantly higher in older age group whereas gingival and papillary attachment was higher in younger age group.
