Cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 213 staff nurses from November 2013 to July 2014 at 10 clinical departments of Nguyen Dinh Chieu hospital, Ben Tre province. Direct observations and Indirect observations through patient records were used to assess the performance of 12 nursing tasks of nursing care. Study results showed that, nurses had completed 7/12 nursing tasks from 71.4 percent to 89.2 percent. Health educational counseling and personal hygiene care for patients were completed with very low rate by nurses (20.2 percent va 27.2 percent). Overall assessment of the level of completion of 12 tasks of nursing care was 60.6 percent. Main recommendation of study is that hospitals should have a training plan to upgrade knowledge, practical skills of nurses, with focused to young and new employed nurses.
