One hundred years ago, in early August 1914 when World War I started in the western front of Europe, Saigon, a French colony at that time, witnessed the events related to characteristics of nationalism happening on 6 August 1914 between two warring countries, France and Germany, that it is hard to imagine this could happen today. Racial hatred unbridledly exposeq and victims were innocent German nationals. They were industrialists, engineers, businesspeople living in Saigon for many years and worked in the areas of manufacturing, commercial and maritime services, insurance, import and export, etc... The little known events described in this article help us know that only people suffer most in any war, quite apart from the fact that some years later many Vietnamese people who were not related to war were sent to Europe to work in the factories or directly engage in fierce battles in the western front.
