Examining Truyen thay Lazaro Phien (1887) of Nguyen Trong Quan from a cultural point of view, the authors point out a number of examples of Christian influence in language and research in terms of a concept of man. In his art, Nguyen Trong Quan preseqted a man with an individual conscience as it exists in Western culture. In terms of language, word narrative and dialogue, the character's monologue made use of words used by Christians. Nguyen Trong Quan enriched the Vietnamese language, expanding the ability to reflect on spirituality. Many writers have exploited the spiritual world of their characters in short stories written in early modern Vietnamese language.
