The novel Ben khong chong by Duong Huong was written just after the war against the French had ended and the war against the United States was in progress. It presents the rhythm of life in the outskirts of a village in the northern plains called the East Village. East Village is presented as a typical rural Vietnamese village during and after the war. The novel cover the generation of women, presenting the characters Nhan, Khien, Hanh, Dau, Cuc, Tham, Hong, Thoa. Ben khong chong helps readers understand the events of that time and the grim fate of the women of East Village.
