Articles published about species composition and the distribution of freshwater gastropod molluscs (Gastropoda) of Huong Son commune, My Duc district, Hanoi were examined. 20 species belonging to 14 genera, 8 families and 2 subclasses (Prosobranchia and Pulmonata) were discovered. Three species are of conservation value, 1 of those species on the 2007 Vietnam Red List, (Antimelania swinhoei) and the other 2 species on the 2012 IUCN Red List (Gyraulus convexiusculus and Stenothyra messageri). One species (Stenomelania dautzenbergiana) was discovered for the first time in northern Vietnam. Freshwater gastropod fauna in the Huong Son area consisted for the most part of Viviparidae and Thiaridae families with a large density and biomass (532 individuales and 1156 g/m2), mainly due to the presence of the two species Anguriagra polyzonata and Thiara scahra. The freshwater gastropod species in running water are more prevalent than in standing water habitats. Physical and chemical indicators, diversity indicator and ASPT indicator showed that the water pollution here occurs at the low to high level and in both populated place and natural environment.
