Disputes in the East Sea is a major concern of American scholars
especially when Chinese element is strongly manifested. The United States is considered as the power country playing an important role in ensuring global security, so its standpoinds and policies have a significant impact on the rest of the world. In addition to the consideration of the government policy, learning about the perspective of American epistemic community is significantly important because it is useful information for Vietnam in academic struggle to contribute to solving the East Sea dispute and to study the interaction between scholars and policy makers. This article surveys the standpoint of American scholars in the resolution to the East Sea disputes, and the cases of DOC/COC and UNCLOS.
