The study was conducted from 2009-2010 in 70 adults aged from 45 to 65 years old with dyslipidemia to evaluate the effectiveness of Beta - Sitor capsules, which are made from corn silk and black sesame, on decreasing dislipidemia and improving blood antioxidant status. The study was control trial
the interventional group (35 subjects) was administered the Beta - Sitor with the dosage of 6 capsules/day' during 9 weeks, while two groups (interventions and controls) were advised the way to control proper dietary. The following indicators were assessed at baseline and the end ofthe study: concentrations of triglyceride, total cholesterol, high density of lipoprotein - cholesterol, low density lipoprotein - cholesterol, malondialdehyde and total antioxidant status in plasma. The results showed that the plasma concentrations of total cholesterol, and malondialdehyde of the intervention group were significantly reduced (p0.01), while there was not a similar change in the control group. In conclusion, the Beta - Sitor capsules had the effectiveness on decreasing dislipidemia and improving blood antioxidant status in the subjects aged from 45 to 65 years old with dyslipidemia.
