Besides true mangrove plants and associated mangrove plants, Can Gio Swamp Biosphere Reservation also has immigrant plants which are local species immigrating to the swamp and living along the ponds and the roadsides. There are 106 immigrant plant species living along the roadsides and the residential areas in Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve, including 48 recently recorded immigrant species. Some immigrant plant species such as Mimosa pigra, Mimosa diplotricha, Pennisetum polystachyon, Bidens bipinnata... are rapidly growing and developing strongly along the roadsides of Rung Sac and Tam Thon Hiep and they have destroyed the swamp landscapes.
