The aim of this study is to estimate genetic parameters for survival of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus linnaeus 1758) rearing under brackish water from fry to fingerling stages (5-8 g/fish). The survival data of 86,609 individual of 6th selection generation produced from 77 families at 20 days post hatch (DPH) and at 60 DPH were recorded and analyzed using Threshold liability model to estimate heritability and genetic correlation of traits studied. The selected brooders (average body weight 440 g/ female brooder) of 5th generation were introduced in mating hapas to produce 77 families with an average of 1125 fries/family. Survival rate at the two stages (20 DPH and 60 DPH) was ranged from 4 percent to 99 percent. The average survival rate at 20 DPH and 60 DPH was 78 percent and 52 percent, respectively. The estimated heritability for survival at the two stages was moderate with the value of 0.25 +/- 0.04 and 0.26 +/- 0.04. The genetic correlation between survival oftilapia at 20DPH and 60DPH was high (0.72).
