Forest in Vietnam ahnost covers mountainous areas. Forest classification based on optical satellite images often occurs misclassification because of hill shade. Therefore, the study examines two approach to overcome the topographical affect on a SPOT5 image. According to study, semi-experimental approach (e-correction) for topographical correction produces a good result compared to experimental statistic approach does. Examination was based on two indicators such as (1) relation between image digital number and aspect, and (2) standard deviation in windows of 3 x 3 pixels between original and corrected images.
