Electricity market in Vietnam is still in the monopoly situation (both monoposony and monopoly). On the Vietnam electricity market, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) is not only the single electricity buyer for hydro power plants, thermal power plants but also the only seller to consumers. Consumers have only choice to buy electricity sold by EVN. In the article, authors mention to the problem of a competitive electricity market in Vietnam based on the experience on electricity market reform of other countries in the world.
